Dena Takruri shares a story about Singer Naima Shalhoub who leads weekly music sessions at San Francisco County Jail. Naima brings hope to these incarcerated women and says that many
thank her for being their freedom for the week. She recorded her debut album Borderlands live at the jail and hopes to inspire these women, lift them up and make them feel heard. This mentor text gives off an uplifting positive vibe. It falls under the genre of documentary. I think the intended audience is for women who have or are currently experiencing time in jail. The main goal is to let them know they are not alone. Naima discusses how music is a way for people to express themselves and these women should be given the chance.
